The FAST-HIV project has two goals:

1) To support HIV Testing in Ontario Emergency Departments (EDs);
2) To study different aspects of HIV testing and healthcare outcomes.

A review of anonymized statistics will take place, looking at:

Length of time to get test results

Number of positive tests in a region

Number of people referred for HIV treatment and prevention

Ideas to improve HIV testing and follow-up care

The review will include financial data on:

Cost of doing HIV tests in hospitals

Time and money saved by giving patients better care and easier access to services

The FAST-HIV study wants to learn if testing for HIV in Emergency Departments in Ontario helps patients stay healthier and saves money for government healthcare systems. The results of this study will help guide future plans to improve patient health and use resources more wisely.
